Important Repair Projects May 26-31

To support the continued delivery of safe, high-quality patient care, Highland Hospital will be conducting two scheduled repair projects from May 26 through May 31.

Tuesday, May 26-Friday, May 29
Contractors will be making necessary repairs at manholes located in the driveway leading to the loading dock between the hospital and the open parking lot facing Rockingham Street.  This work requires intermittent saw-cutting and jackhammering of concrete, which will create noise audible mostly to neighbors living on or near Rockingham Street between South Avenue and Mt. Vernon Avenue. Work activities will start daily at 8 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m.

Friday, May 29-Sunday, May 31 (Weather Permitting)
Highland’s Facilities Department and contractors will implement critical repairs on an air handler, which requires the replacement of its fans. Properly functioning air handlers help maintain air quality by supporting proper circulation, filtration, airflow, and pressure control in the hospital’s operating rooms. Because the air handler is on the rooftop of the hospital, a crane is needed to deliver the replacement parts to the work area.

Friday, May 29
  • The crane will arrive in the early evening hours on Friday, May 29.  It will be parked on Bellevue Drive, past the main entrance of the hospital campus.
  • After the crane’s arrival, the roadway that leads to the Southeast Tower entrance will be closed beginning at the white trailer to gated entrance on Mt. Vernon Avenue.
    • For staff, patient, and visitor safety, vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be prohibited in this area while the crane is on campus.
    • The Emergency Department and Main entrances to the hospital campus will remain open for visitors, patients, staff, and ambulances.

Saturday, May 30
  • Work crews will set up by 8 a.m. and work until late afternoon, weather permitting.
    • The crane will be needed intermittently throughout the day.  When in operation, the motor produces a sound similar to a large truck idling. It will be most audible to neighbors on Bellevue Drive and nearby homes on Mt. Vernon Avenue.
    • The crane will leave the hospital campus Saturday evening, and the roadway that leads to the Southeast Tower entrance will reopen.
