A Conversation with Bogachan Sahin, M.D., Ph.D., Chief of Neurology

Bogachan Sahin, M.D., Ph.D., became Chief of Neurology at Highland in April. He succeeds Adam Kelly, M.D., who served as Highland Hospital’s Chief of Neurology for almost six years. Dr. Sahin has been an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester’s School of Medicine and Dentistry since 2013 and became the Director of the Vascular Neurology Fellowship Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center in 2015.  A native of Turkey, Dr. Sahin earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology at Princeton University and his M.D. and Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He went on to complete his residency in Neurology and fellowship in Vascular Neurology at Johns Hopkins University. The following is an interview with Dr. Sahin about his new role and Neurology at Highland.

Ronald M. Epstein, M.D., professor of Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Oncology and Medicine (Palliative Care), has received the American Cancer Society’s most prestigious award, the Clinical Research Professorship, to continue his studies of doctor-patient communication. ACS awards only two of these professorships each year. These grants provide up to $80,000 a year to mid-career professionals for five years and are renewable once.

Fogarty, M.D., MSc, Associate Chair for Interprofessional Practice and Education, and Medical Director at Highland Family Medicine with the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital Department of Family Medicine has been selected by the Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM) for a year-long fellowship program that provides academic leadership development for those interested in being a chair or considering that as a potential career direction.

This latest accreditation demonstrates the facility’s ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care in echocardiography.
