Welcome to the Luan Lab

Dr. Xianghong Luan received her MD training in China, where she served as an Assistant Professor at the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine in Beijing. When she first came to the U.S., she worked as a Research Fellow in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, University of Texas Health Science Health at San Antonio, San Antonio, TX (1994-1998). She was then recruited as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the former Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX (1998-2001). A subsequent move to the Brodie Laboratory for Craniofacial Genetics at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry led to promotions to the ranks of Assistant and then Associate Professor with Tenure (2009) in the Departments of Orthodontics and Oral Biology. Seeking to implement her expertise in tissue engineering for translational medicine, Texas A&M recruited Dr. Luan in 2019 as a Full Professor into the Department of Periodontics. New opportunities for translational research once more prompted a move the newly founded Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the University of Rochester Eastman Institute of Oral Health.

Research in our laboratory focuses on materials design for tissue regeneration. Other areas of interest include microRNAs and the amelogenin extracellular matrix molecule.
