A post-doctoral position is available at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Wojtovich . The project is funded by a grant from the US National Institutes of Health and will study mitochondrial function and neuronal function using optogenetic approaches. The laboratory uses a broad range of methods that offers the opportunity for training in multiple disciplines. The postdoctoral fellow will work on projects related to mitochondrial function and neurodegeneration, including stroke, hypoxic stress, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and/or collaborative research to ensure all experiments are performed in compliance with Lab, Department, and University policies and procedures.
• Design, organize, and execute experiments using established protocols, while adapting or developing new protocols as needed.
• Maintain mouse colonies and cultured cell lines essential for the projects.
• Collect, prepare, and analyze research data, including maintaining a laboratory notebook to document experiments and results.
• Compile and organize data for presentations, utilize statistical software to analyze data.
• Contribute to the preparation of abstracts and articles, publish research findings in academic journals, and present results at conferences.
• Support Principal Investigators in applying for grants and scholarship opportunities.
• Train and supervise students, and other laboratory personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in related field or discipline, such as Physiology, Biochemistry, or Neuroscience.
• Independently-motivated, resourceful, and a strong work ethic.
• Strong background in mitochondrial biology and the biological/mechanistic basis of mitochondrial involvement in neurodegenerative diseases.
• At least one first-author peer-reviewed publication in a related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Established skills in laboratory techniques, such as microscopy, cell culture, and mouse behavior.
• Sufficient knowledge of large datasets and image analysis.

The pay range of $63,480 - $71,748 represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
