In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Hemminger is actively involved in clinical trials investigating new treatment approaches for patients with glioblastoma and IDH?mutant gliomas, CNS lymphoma, meningiomas, and brain metastases. Her research interests span quality improvement, supportive care, and advanced care planning for individuals with neuro?oncologic disease. She leads several studies examining health care utilization among patients with brain and spine metastases and leptomeningeal disease, with the goal of optimizing treatment strategies while minimizing toxicities and hospitalizations.

Her scholarly work also includes multi?institutional collaborations focused on improving advanced care planning in glioblastoma, with an emphasis on preserving the patient’s voice in complex medical decision?making and enhancing end?of?life outcomes. Dr. Hemminger has published on end?of?life outcomes and decision?making in glioblastoma, the impact of radiation therapy on older adults with brain tumors, and treatment outcomes for patients with brain metastases and leptomeningeal disease. Together, these efforts contribute to a growing body of work aimed at improving the care and experiences of patients with neuro?oncologic disease.

To me, Dr Hemminger is the epitome of what a physician who works with patients should be. She listens, she teaches, she cautions, she communicates well.

In my past with other health systems I had become very wary of doctors due to their not believing what I said I was experiencing likely related to a brain tumor I have. They said to reduce stress, so I did. I ended doctor appointments. None of the things I was experiencing ended, but the stress did. I just learned to live with hearing my pulse, etc.New symptoms have started and I feel they should be looked at, but my mind got stressed again just thinking of previous appointments. Dr Hemminger's name was shared as really worth trying, so I did. The experience was totally different. She not only believes me, she cares, and agrees it needs to be checked into and feels there are options for things I gave up on. It gives me hope, makes me feel like I'm not just a burden or number, and lets me be confident in the future plans even if the testing results aren't good. Had it been the same as before, that appointment would have been my last and que sera, sera. Quite honestly, with my previous appointments elsewhere I almost chose to just end my life, but I'm glad I didn't and just ended the doctor appointments. Thank you UR for employing a terrific doctor and entire team. If she'll stay, consider keeping resident Dr. Staub too
