Biography

Dr. Wittink's clinical work focuses on adults with multiple chronic conditions. She is the medical director of the Inpatient Medicine in Psychiatry (IMIP) unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. IMIP uses a multidisciplinary team approach to care for patients with acute medical and psychosocial needs. Dr. Wittink is also involved in medical student and resident teaching focused on primary care mental health, multimorbidity and the social determinants of health. She is passionate about working with patients and families to determine health goals and improve overall quality of life.

Research

Dr. Wittink is Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Family Medicine. Her research efforts focus on improving care for patients with multiple chronic conditions and psychosocial needs. She has been awarded grants from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to develop strategies to elicit and incorporate patient priorities into care. She joined the UR faculty in 2010 to work with other researchers interested in health care decision-making and patient-provider communication. She us currently developing and testing computer-based tools to help patients articulate their health related priorities to clinicians.
