Professional Background

Dr. Brazill is a psychiatrist and a family medicine physician at the University of Rochester with a primary appointment in the medical school’s Psychiatry Department and secondary appointments in the Departments of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He serves as the Assistant Medical Director of the Medicine in Psychiatry Services Outpatient Division within the Department of Psychiatry, delivering primary care and psychiatric services to URMC patients.

Prior to his tenure in Rochester, Dr. Brazill worked for four years as an outpatient psychiatrist and family medicine physician in rural, central Illinois, and served on the medical school faculties at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Carle Illinois College of Medicine.

Originally from Vestal, NY, Dr. Brazill studied English and philosophy at The University of Scranton and earned a Master of Science in forest resources management from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry in Syracuse. He worked on forestland, water quality, and agricultural issues impacting the Catskill and Hudson Highlands regions of New York before completing medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Illinois in 2010.

Dr. Brazill finished his family medicine/psychiatry internship at The University of Oklahoma’s College of Community Medicine in Tulsa and completed his residency in family medicine and psychiatry at The University of Cincinnati/The Christ Hospital Residency Program in Ohio.

Dr. Brazill is committed to integrating mental health into primary care medicine, and has a strong interest in working with patients concomitantly coping with severe mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD) and complex medical conditions.
