Tyler J. Fleming, DO, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry, where he serves as Associate Program Director and Director of Psychotherapy Education for the Psychiatry Residency Program, and Medical Director of Strong Minds and Strong Family Therapy Services.

Dr. Fleming’s clinical and academic work focuses on psychotherapy, psychodynamic psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and the integration of psychological thinking into contemporary psychiatric practice and medical education. His particular interest is developing approaches to psychotherapy and psychodynamic education that make sophisticated psychological concepts clinically useful to psychiatric trainees across inpatient, emergency, consultation-liaison, and outpatient settings, as well as within interdisciplinary clinical and educational environments.

At the University of Rochester, Dr. Fleming has developed and leads a longitudinal psychotherapy and psychodynamic curriculum spanning all four years of psychiatry residency training. His educational scholarship includes innovative approaches to teaching psychodynamic formulation, psychotherapy technique, psychoanalytic theory, and psychodynamic psychopharmacology. His scholarly work focuses on developing, evaluating, and disseminating approaches to psychotherapy education that are responsive to the realities of contemporary psychiatric training.

Dr. Fleming completed his undergraduate education at Thomas Jefferson University and earned a combined Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Public Health degree from Touro University California. He completed psychiatry residency at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia and adult psychoanalytic training (academic track) at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia.
