Electronic Laboratory Notebook

The University of Rochester Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) Committee, composed of faculty, staff, and students, reviewed potential ELNs, and based on the feedback from an initial round of ELN demonstrations and comparisons, has decided to evaluate two ELN products, LabArchives and RSpace. The committee looked at multiple options and considered how researchers liked the interface, the flexibility of the systems to adapt to different workflows, the ability to handle different file formats and sizes, integrations with other commonly used software applications, and the overall costs

As part of this evaluation phase, we will provide volunteer University of Rochester research programs access to all University students, faculty, researchers, and staff, with an opportunity to evaluate the ELNs (LabArchives and RSpace), participate in training and demonstrations, fill out online questionnaires, participate in interviews, and share your insights.

LabArchives and RSpace research notebooks can be used to organize and manage laboratory data safely and conveniently using multiple platforms and devices. Whether managing a research lab as a principal investigator or reviewing students’ lab work as an instructor, LabArchives and RSpace can be used to ensure effective research data management plans and help improve student learning.

Your feedback will be critical in our overall ELN selection.
