Desktop / Laptop / Mobile Device Support
Academic IT provides essential desktop support to all faculty, staff, and students within the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, as well as extended technical support to many research groups and departments.

Academic IT provides application development, support, and consulting to individuals and groups in administrative, educational, and research areas. We work with the URMC community to create enterprise-class web-based and mobile applications serving the needs of researchers, clinicians, patients, students, and educators.

Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap)
Academic IT supports REDCap, the Research Electronic Data Capture system, which provides functionality and features to enable faculty, staff, and students to develop research databases and online surveys rapidly. REDcap is a web-browser based electronic data capture system developed by Vanderbilt University and provided to Vanderbilt's academic partners free of charge. The system provides a platform by which researchers can design research databases and provides capabilities such as electronic forms and automated workflow, enabling study design and data collection. These databases, data entry forms, and surveys are intuitive, easy to use tools for collecting data, including data validation.

Epic and eRecord for Research
Within Academic IT, we use Epic to assist clinical staff and researchers with managing patient care and research studies. Epic can be used to support research in several ways. You can track patient participation in studies, support enrollment through alerts based on study criteria, capture data in a patient record, and recruit patients to your studies.

Server Provisioning and System Administration
Academic IT provides support for both physical and virtual servers for departmental research projects and applications. Academic IT administers these servers while providing complete access to departmental users for application needs and collaboration activities.

Data Center Management Services
Academic IT provides researchers with secure, HIPAA-compliant Data Center services. In conjunction with UR University IT and URMC ISD, Academic IT provides for management of firewalls and other data center security and operational components, including system and application security monitoring, system patching, and vulnerability scanning.

Research Data Storage and Data Archiving
University of Rochester faculty and staff can choose from several research data storage options depending on their storage needs and data requirements. Academic IT designs, develops, and operates research data management solutions for the URMC community. Academic IT provides data storage resources to all faculty, staff, and students of the School of Medicine and Dentistry. Our enterprise-grade secure storage solution includes backup, replication, archiving, and disaster recovery solutions for the university community.

Computer Hardware and Software Purchasing
Academic IT provides consultation to faculty, staff, and students related to utilizing UR and URMC IT services or acquiring hardware/software to meet their needs. Academic IT provides for the full range of life cycle services, including being responsible for all the processes, tasks and people required to keep systems functional and maintain user productivity during the lifetime of hardware and software.

We assist all faculty, staff, and students with getting access to the services they need. From requesting a network account, purchasing a computer, protecting your computer from viruses, or resetting forgotten passwords for NetIDs.

Information Security Services
Academic IT provides Information Security assistance, guidance, and training for all HIPAA Information Privacy and Security issues for all School of Medicine and Dentistry faculty, staff, and students. In addition, we work with departments on projects requiring Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliance.
