Diversity Seminar Series

The Diversity Seminar Series is an ACCME accredited series of workshops and lectures developed annually for the benefit of faculty, residents, fellows, students, nurses, social workers and other staff. The series is designed to help participants understand cultural perspectives that may impact patient care, education and research. This will enable them to improve their own teaching, patient care and research relative to diverse populations. In addition, the series aims to help people develop strategies for personal development, mentoring and academic career planning.

Tana A. Grady-Weliky, MD Lecture

A highlight of the Diversity Seminar Series is the Tana A. Grady-Weliky, MD, Lecture on Women and Diversity in Medicine. The lecture honors the memory of Dr. Grady-Weliky, former University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Senior Associate Dean for Education and Department of Psychiatry faculty member. It brings in nationally recognized speakers each year to address critical topics related to diversity and inclusion in academic medicine.

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion at URMC

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion at URMC takes place in April as part of the YWCA’s Stand Against Racism national movement to help raise awareness about racism and diversity issues. The event highlights the broad range of diversity and inclusion activities and resources at the medical center. Exhibits may be displayed in one or more locations throughout the medical center.

Health Care Disparities Conferences

Held every other year beginning in 2013, health care disparities conferences give health care professionals an opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills in providing health care to underserved patients.
