About Us

Colorectal disease can be mild, or it can be life-threatening. But no matter how serious your condition is, it always makes sense to get the very best care available.

The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery seeks to bring every patient in our region the most advanced care for colorectal disease. We do this in several important ways:

Expertise. We believe colorectal surgery should be performed by highly-trained specialists. So we offer you specialty-trained surgeons who are experts in the latest techniques, including minimally invasive surgery.

State-of-the-art treatments. Some of the surgeries we perform are not available anywhere else in the area. For example, we are the only area provider that offers TEMS, a minimally invasive procedure for rectal cancer.

Multidisciplinary care. For cancer cases, we have a weekly board where medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and other experts come together in order to reach a consensus on the best treatment for you.

Research. As part of the area’s only Academic Medical Center, we are highly involved in research and clinical trials. This means you will have highly advanced treatments available to you, often years before they become widely available.

Knowledge. Our surgeons are all board-certified and have published hundreds of papers on colorectal disease and its treatments. They are at the forefront of their field and are regularly invited to speak and teach around the world.

Part of URMC. Our division is part of the University of Rochester Medical Center, recognized as the area’s leader in advanced medical care.

Caring. Our commitment to Patient & Family Centered Care helps ensure a comfortable, understanding environment for both you and the ones you love.
