Curriculum

Year 1

First 6 Months

  • Basic management of transplant patients
  • Transplant evaluation clinic assignments:
    • Kidney Disease
    • Liver Disease
    • Pancreatic Disease
  • Vascular access surgery experience
  • Multi-organ procurement under the direction of attending provider or senior fellow
  • Clinical research and direction (x1 day/week)

Second 6 Months

  • Expand into surgical technique of kidney and liver transplantation with focus on kidney transplant
    1. Decreased donor organ recovery
    2. Living donation (lap hand assist/observe robotic)
    3. Organ implantation (open/observe robotic)
  • Multi-disciplinary patient rounds
  • On-call schedule
  • Clinical research (2-3 days/month)

Year 2

First 6 Months

  • Continued participation in liver and kidney with a focus on standard liver transplantation
    1. Patient evaluation
    2. Pre- and post-operative care
    3. Decreased donor organ recovery
    4. Decreased donor transplantation
  • Multi-disciplinary patient rounds
  • On-call schedule
  • Clinical research (2-3 days/month)

Second 6 Months

  • Continued participation in liver and kidney with a focus on complex/advanced liver transplantation
    1. Live donor donation
    2. Live donor implantation
  • Multi-disciplinary patient rounds
  • On-call schedule
  • Clinical research (2-3 days/month)
