Dr. J. Peter Harris Leaves Legacy

A Life of Dedication

Dr. J. Peter HarrisOn January 31, 2013, Dr. J. Peter Harris retired from a distinguished career in pediatric cardiology and medical education at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Golisano Children’s Hospital. As Professor of Pediatrics, Associate Chair for Education and Residency Program Director, Dr. Harris has helped shape countless careers and made an indelible, very human impression upon the institution, his trainees and the children and families he cared for.

Dr. Harris believes it to be the inherent responsibility of anyone graduating from medical school to be a teacher. He maintained an open door policy both literally and figuratively, always approachable to answer questions or teach. He was invested in making students and residents “complete physicians” with his unrelenting encouragement to read and to master the necessary pediatric competencies and skills, while not losing focus on compassion for patients and their families.
