Visiting Hours & Restrictions

We Are Observing Limited Visitor Restrictions

Our Universal Masking policy mandates all St. James staff, vendors, patients and visitors wear a mask at all times while in the Hospital at 7329 Seneca Rd. and Medical Office Building at 7309 Seneca Rd.

We are pleased to begin limited visitation in the inpatient unit. The safety of our patients, staff, and visitors is our #1 priority.

With guidance from the New York State Department of Health and UR Medicine, the following visitor restrictions are effective April 1, 2021 at 2 p.m. There are exceptions for patients on comfort care:

Inpatient Unit

  • Visiting hours daily from noon – 8:00 pm.
  • Two visitors allowed to be the patient at a time, for a maximum of 4 hours per day.
  • Exceptions: pediatric patients or end of life/comfort care patients (other exceptions will be identified as needed).
  • Visitors must be at least 18 years old.
  • Visitors are not allowed to visit patients who are COVID-19 positive or awaiting COVID- 19 test results.
  • On weekdays, visitors will be screened at the main entrance, and on weekends at the Emergency Department entrance.
  • After initial screening, visitors must register at the inpatient unit for a temperature and symptoms check and have their information entered electronically.  
  • Before entering patient rooms, safety protocols will be reviewed with each visitor.  He or she will be asked to sign an attestation acknowledging he/she understands and agrees to adhere to the guidelines.
  • Visitors must wear appropriate personal protective equipment in the hospital and will be expected to follow appropriate hand hygiene practices.
  • All social distancing protocols are to be followed in patient rooms, including no physical contact and 6’ distancing, per NYS Department of Health guidelines.  
  • Outside food, drinks, flowers, and gifts may not be brought into patient rooms.  
  • While in the facility visitors must remain in the patient’s room or family waiting room (exceptions: going to the restroom or café) and must leave the hospital at the end of the visit.

Emergency Department

  • No restrictions on visiting hours.
  • One support person in the ED exam room at a time, two total – rotating.
  • Exceptions: pediatric patients or end of life/comfort care patients (other exceptions will be identified as needed).
  • Visitors must be at least 18 years old.
  • On weekdays, visitors will be screened at the main entrance, and on weekends at the emergency department entrance.
  • Visitors must wear appropriate personal protective equipment in the hospital and will be expected to follow appropriate hand hygiene practices.
  • All social distancing protocols are to be followed, including no physical contact and 6’ distancing, per NYS Department of Health guidelines.  
  • Outside food, drinks, etc., may not be brought into ED exam rooms.  
  • While in the facility visitors must remain in the ED exam or waiting room (exceptions: going to the restroom or café).

Same-Day Surgery

  • No restriction on visiting hours.
  • One support person per patient to wait in the family waiting room.
  • Exceptions: pediatric patients or end of life/comfort care patients (other exceptions will be identified as needed).
  • Visitors must be at least 18 years old.
  • Visitors will be screened at the main entrance.
  • Visitors must wear appropriate personal protective equipment in the hospital and will be expected to follow appropriate hand hygiene practices.
  • All social distancing protocols are to be followed, including no physical contact and 6’ distancing, per NYS Department of Health guidelines.  
  • While in the facility visitors must remain in the family waiting room (exceptions: going to the restroom or café).
