CMNH Marks 30 Years
CMNH celebrates 30 years with Help from Local Sponsors
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Since 1983, the organization has raised more than $4.7 billion for 170 hospitals across the United States and Canada, including Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).
The help of many of our local CMNH sponsors has contributed to this success and the overall growth and improvement of our region’s only children’s hospital.
Walmart and Sam’s Club
Area Walmarts recently completed their six-week CMNH balloon campaign, raising more than $142,000 for Golisano Children’s Hospital – a 16 percent increase from last year’s total! From May 7 to June 21, Walmart shoppers purchased paper balloons that were proudly displayed on the stores’ walls. In addition to balloon sales, branches held chicken barbeques, hot dog sales, and created and participated in “round ups.” Cashiers would ask customers if they wanted to round up their totals to the next dollar and give to the children’s hospital. The associates also created competitions amongst the management where one lucky (or unlucky) manager with the lowest fundraising total had to kiss a pig. This competition took place at the Geneva and Geneseo locations.
A friendly competition between the stores helped raise the stakes for this year’s total, with the Geneva branch coming in the lead with $19,577 a 32 percent increase from 2012!
Also, with area Walmarts and Sam’s Clubs support, over 130 golfers from various companies came together on May 22 at the Golfing for Kids Tournament to support the children’s hospital. Special thanks to all of our sponsors and, in particular, our major sponsors Pepsi Co, North American Breweries, Byrne Dairy and Coca-Cola, for making a difference for the children in our region.
Thank you to all of the Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs for your continuous support and dedication!
The Rochester area Rite Aid’s dedication to helping children continued this past spring. Area stores not only sold paper Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals balloons, but got creative with their fundraising by developing various fundraising in-stores as well – giving customers the chance to win different gift baskets. The Dewey/Stone Road location’s enthusiastic dedication to raise funds helped them earn the title of top fundraising store in the region! Way to go!
Chico’s and White House/Black Market
Through their in-store customer donations and the sales of the special CMNH bracelet, created especially for Children’s Miracle Network to support their local hospital, Chico’s and White House/Black Market stores have been a great partner. This year, White House/Black Market in Eastview Mall created a special fashion show that featured some of our patients. Their support helped generate several thousand dollars for Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Area Sunoco stores have been a long-time supporter of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Golisano Children’s Hospital. The associates and management in each location have truly worked hard with their balloon icon sales, as well as other fundraisers held at their locations throughout their campaign. This year’s campaign brought in $18,902 for Golisano Children’s Hospital. Thank you to all of the Sunoco stores for their continued support!
