The Mobile Mammography Van, also known as the Mammo Van, travels across the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region. It offers convenient access to the same unparalleled care you can expect from UR Medicine Breast Imaging locations. This state-of-the-art mobile facility is wheelchair accessible, air conditioned, and equipped with the latest mammography technology—including a 3D Tomosynthesis Hologic Dimensions Unit.
UR Medicine's Approach
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast, to check for and diagnose breast disease. A mammogram is done as a screening test and may also be used if you are experiencing breast pain or other symptoms. It uses a low dose of radiation.
We have the expertise to evaluate numerous conditions, including:

- Breast infections and inflammations

- Fibrocystic breast changes
- Nipple problems and discharge
- Phyllodes tumor

Frequently Asked Questions
You will need to undress from the waist up and will be provided a gown to wear. Do not apply lotion, deodorant, or powder to the breast or underarm area. If you are wearing deodorant, wipes will be available.
You will be greeted as you enter the Mammo van by a UR Medicine Breast Imaging team member and provided a gown to wear throughout your exam. The mammography technologist will go over your breast health and family history. The mammography technologist will position your breast in the machine and will guide you through the imaging process. The entire mammogram appointment will take about 20 minutes. The imaging and compression of each breast lasts 10-30 seconds.
Your results will be available to you through a link in MyChart. A paper copy of your results will be mailed to the address you provide if you do not have a MyChart account. Your provider will also receive your results. If additional imaging studies are needed, a UR Medicine Breast Imaging team member will contact you directly and schedule a follow-up appointment at one of our diagnostic locations.

The ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation signifies that UR Medicine Breast Imaging provides these services to the Rochester and surrounding communities at the highest standards of the radiology profession.
