Program Director

Welcome to the Independent Thoracic Fellowship program at the University of Rochester. We have a rich tradition in resident and fellow education with a robust training experience in both Cardiac and Thoracic surgery. The University of Rochester Medical Center is the premiere referral center for Upstate New York which provides high clinical volume and broad-based exposure in Adult Cardiac and Congenital Cardiac and General Thoracic Surgery.

The University of Rochester Thoracic Fellowship program has been in existence for over 50 years. We have the advantage of maintaining our training program entirely within a single institution. Creating an optimal environment for our residents' training experience and allows us to create a family atmosphere with an emphasis on mentoring, coaching, and academic development. Our fellowship program is flexible to allow for focus in either Cardiac and Thoracic expertise depending on the career goals of the trainee.

The Division of Cardiac Surgery boasts a world-class structural heart program focused on minimally invasive cardiac surgery alongside a very busy heart failure and mechanical support surgery program. We are also a premiere congenital cardiac surgery program in the state of New York.

The Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery is a very active unit of surgeons who pride themselves on minimally invasive treatments for thoracic disease. We have a robust practice in VATS, laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic surgical techniques. In addition to a busy oncologic practice, we are a center of excellence for esophageal disease from diagnostic services to endoscopic and surgical therapies for benign and malignant esophageal disease.

We invite you to learn more about our program. I believe that you will find that the University of Rochester is a spectacular place to train and become a future leader in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Again thank you for your interest in the University of Rochester Thoracic Surgery Fellowship.
