Mission and Values
The Department of Medicine has three missions:
We will provide excellence in patient care.
The most state-of-the-art care will always be available here. We will ensure that our patients have access to the most highly trained doctors, the most advanced technology and the most effective treatments, at all times. We will bring the latest technology here; we will also generate it ourselves. We will attract the very best doctors; we will also develop them from within. We will use the newest treatments; we will also invent and improve upon them. Any procedure that is available at any of the top medical centers in the country will also be available here.
We will advance basic, translational and clinical research.
We will continue to be one of the nation’s leading centers for medical research. We will provide a stimulating environment, where collaboration accelerates discovery. We will initiate new findings in basic science and find ways to speed the process of their translation to clinical care. We will take the lead in stem cells, genetics/genomics, nanotechnology and medical imaging. We will be a proving ground for new technologies, a place that moves all of medicine forward.
We will provide preeminent leadership in medical education.
We will provide educational programs that are among the most outstanding in the nation. We will train the next generation of academic leaders, physician/scientists, and doctors for our region. We will do this through innovation in residency programs, fellowships and undergraduate education. We will continue to lead the nation as a test center for new educational ideas. We will be a model for the world’s top educational programs to follow.
