Pain Management

Pain is the most common medical complaint in the US.Pain Management Team

For the millions of Americans who experience persistent pain, the impact on function and quality of life can be profound. Pain can affect you physically and emotionally. Physical symptoms can include muscle tension, loss of mobility, fatigue, and loss of appetite; emotional effects include depression, anger, and anxiety.

Most patients find at least temporary relief using non-opioid analgesics such as acetaminophen, salicylates, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

But when symptoms persist and impact quality of life, many patients turn to a pain specialist.

Noyes’ pain management specialist Dr. Chirag Patel and his team create personalized treatment plans to reduce chronic or severe pain.

They will work with you to address acute and chronic pain conditions, whether from arthritis, athletic injuries, back injuries, lower back and neck pain, or musculoskeletal disorders.

Here’s how Dr. Patel and his staff determine the best way to help:

•Thorough evaluation: Before treatment begins, our specialists carefully assess your pain to understand the underlying causes of your symptoms. As part of your evaluation, your doctor may:

Take a detailed medical history

Conduct a comprehensive physical exam

Use diagnostic injections of a local anesthetic and steroid in specific joints or nerves to identify the source of the pain

Order imaging tests such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams

•Multidisciplinary approach: We provide the best possible care by utilizing the expertise of many different specialists.  If needed, Dr. Patel can connect you with psychologists, physical therapists, social workers or a surgeon.

•Tailored and comprehensive treatment plans: Together, our experts develop a pain treatment plan for your specific medical needs. It may include a combination of medications, injections, nerve blocks, and physical and occupational therapy.

•Patient support and education: Education is a key part of your treatment and ability to cope with pain. We work with your referring doctor to help you keep pain at a tolerable level, increase your independence, improve your sense of well-being, decrease and possibly eliminate the need for narcotics and sedatives, create a home exercise and activity program to prevent a recurrence of pain, and get you back to work.

Pain specialist Dr. Chirag Patel sees patients in Dansville and in Geneseo.
