Our primary goal at UR Medicine is to provide the very best quality of care in an environment that is safe for everyone. To encourage social distancing and minimize the potential spread of COVID-19, we are now providing a majority of our visits through telemedicine.
What is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine refers to remote visits with your provider using telephone or video instead of an in-person visit. It allows you to speak with your provider without traveling to a hospital, office or clinic. You will receive the same quality of care and attention from your provider without having to meet in-person. If your visit is conducted using video, you will even be able to see your provider on your screen.
Who Can Use Telemedicine?
Telemedicine is appropriate for a wide range of health services; however, for emergency situations such as heart attack, stroke, cuts and lacerations, or broken bones, please reach out to your provider for guidance or visit one of our Urgent Care locations or the Emergency Department.
Cost of a Telemedicine Visit
Most insurance companies are now providing coverage for telemedicine visits. There may be a cost associated with your visit, such as a copay, but you should check with your insurance provider to confirm how much you can expect to pay.
Security and Patient Safety
Medical information shared with your provider during this visit will be documented and safeguarded just as it would during an in-person visit. To maximize security and confidentiality, it is recommended that you complete your telemedicine visit in a quiet, private location where you can speak freely and without interruptions.
Technology Requirements for a Telemedicine Visit
After scheduling a telemedicine visit, you will receive a secure link via email or a MyChart message. If you do not have MyChart, you can sign up easily and quickly.
Telephone visits only require a telephone. Video visits require a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet access, a webcam and microphone. You should download and install the Zoom app prior to your appointment.
