I have had a variety of experiences caring for others on my journey to midwifery, from caring for people with dementia, to helping women recover from surgery and fight cancer on a gynecologic oncology floor, to caring for men and women on a cardiac and respiratory critical care unit. I have helped birthing people in five different hospitals and two different states, as both a nurse and a midwife. I have witnessed some of life’s most beautifully rewarding times as well as tragic and heart-wrenching. All of these experiences have led me to midwifery and it is a privilege and honor to be able to partner with families through these special moments.
To me, midwifery marries evidence-based practice with patient-centered care and allows me to care for the person as a whole, instead of only ministering to their physical wellness. I have always been drawn to meeting others where they are, listening to them, and helping them to be active participants in their own care. I strive to create a trusting partnership between myself and the families that I care for so that they feel safe and know that their options and concerns matter. I am passionate about providing trauma-informed care, improving access to reproductive and preventative care, and supporting women throughout their lives. I am particularly interested in exploring the health-promoting and disease-preventing benefits of exercise and nutrition throughout the life-span, but especially during pregnancy and the postpartum period. I am grateful to have the opportunity to care for others and advocate for them while providing full-scope midwifery care to our community.
