Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the pharmacy residency programs offered at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center!  We take great pride in the quality and vitality of our residency programs, and believe that you will find the diversity of specialties and highly qualified preceptors at our site to be a great match to your interests.  A dynamic and growing department of pharmacy within an equally dynamic academic medical center makes for a great combination for learning and developing clinical knowledge and skills essential to being a successful clinical pharmacist.  This institution provides a somewhat unique combination of a large academic medical center providing cutting edge care and world-class teaching located in a relatively small urban-suburban community with ready access to the many recreational activities of the Finger Lakes and Great Lakes region of New York State.  I hope that you take some time to learn more about our outstanding residency programs and equally outstanding medical center, and then reach the conclusion that pursuing advanced pharmacy training at the UR Medical Center is a good choice for your career.

As a large multi-center system, the UR Medicine/Strong Memorial Hospital offers a variety of providers and services intertwined to serve a diverse population. This network of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals and hospitals work in concert with the community to create an enhanced quality of life for patients.

It's this system that provides an ideal setting for teaching the fundamentals of pharmacy practice. Strong Memorial Hospital, where the resident will spend time in an 800-bed care center that provides a comprehensive range of general and highly specialized services. The hospital is consistently ranked as one of "America's Best Hospitals” in U.S. News & World Report magazine's annual survey.

Various specialties have been recognized among the best in the nation, including cardiac care, neurosurgery, urology, gynecology, cancer and pediatrics. The Department of Pharmacy also has academic affiliations with the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher College, D'Youville School of Pharmacy, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and others.

The Pharmacy Residencies at the University of Rochester Medical Center are ASHP accredited residencies and utilizes the Resident Matching Program. In compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Matching Services and ASHP, the residency site agrees that no person will solicit, accept, or use any ranking-related information from any residency applicant.
