Long-time Adjunct Professors Roy Wood and Cheryl Johnson celebrated their 70th birthdays with a memorable performance.

The UR Program of Dance and Movement’s 2025 Faculty & Capstone Concert showcased an inspiring blend of creativity, collaboration, and exploration in dance. Adjunct Professors Cheryl Johnson and Roy Wood, who both recently celebrated their 70th birthdays, delivered a memorable performance that reflected on music and dance from their shared experiences. It was a perfect opportunity to explore the role dancing can play in enabling all of us to live our best lives as we age.

Cheryl Johnson

“Age is something we have to adapt to and we have to learn how to go forward. Age has enhanced my ability as a dancer in many ways.”

Cheryl Johnson,
University of Rochester Dance Instructor

Roy Wood

“Aging inspired means that you continue to find things that are valuable and challenging. They can be little things, but you look for those things that you can do every day.”

Roy Wood, University of Rochester Dance Instructor
