Your Attention Is Currency

Where is your attention going? In 1997, physicist and futurist Michael H. Goldhaber introduced the concept of the “Attention Economy”. This is the idea that human attention, like time, is a limited resource that can be captured and manipulated. Today, this concept is more relevant than ever.

Every notification, headline, and algorithm compete for your focus. If you’re not intentional, you risk falling into a cycle of constant interruptions, scattered thinking, and reduced productivity. Awareness is your first line of defense, but it’s a skill that requires practice.

Start by recognizing this truth: your attention is the most valuable resource in today’s economy.

Your decisions, values, and sense of what matters most are all targets. When you pause and acknowledge this, you create space to refocus and make conscious choices instead of being pulled into a vortex of agendas.

Taking control of your attention isn’t just about productivity, it’s about satisfaction. Directing your focus where you want gives you the power to live and work with intention.
