Why We Gather
Join Andy and Laurie Meloni on Kentucky Derby Day for an evening of Southern elegance, exceptional cuisine, and exciting auctions._ This year’s gala will support Highland’s new surgical short stay unit, a next-generation space that will help meet our patients’ needs for years to come. Scheduled to open later this year, this new, modern surgical recovery area provides the benefit of immediate access to full hospital-based resources, which sets it apart from recovery spaces in outpatient-only settings.
Your generosity will not only make this space possible, but you’ll be creating a lasting impact on our patients, staff, and the community for years to come.
The space is designed to be patient-centered and team-focused. There will be 26 patient rooms, a waiting room for families, and a gym for orthopaedic patients to begin immediate rehabilitation after surgery. The focus of the care is on improving mobility and controlling pain with a goal to get patients home within 23 hours of surgery.
No matter your level of support—a $30,000 triple crown sponsorship, or one in the $50 to $5,000 range—your support will make a difference now, and for years to come.
We need your help.
The new surgical short stay unit will enhance the high-quality care we provide to patients. Every day, our hospital cares for more patients than it was designed to serve, which can make finding the right space at the right time a challenge. These additional beds will help ensure patients receive care in a more timely, comfortable setting while easing the strain across the hospital. It’s a vital step toward creating a better experience for every patient who walks through our doors.
