URMC / Highland Hospital / Giving / Highland Hospital Gala / About The Gala About the Gala The Highland Hospital Gala is the hospital’s largest fundraising event of the year. For over ten years, community members and supporters have gathered to celebrate Highland Hospital and raise significant funds to help support the hospital’s signature clinical services and physical plant. Each year, the gala includes a silent and live auction, lively entertainment, and an opportunity to showcase how the hospital plays a key role in the community. Funds raised at the 2019 Highland Gala will support Highland’s Private Bed Modernization Project, an ambitious expansion that will transform nearly all Highland Hospital’s patient care rooms to private. Private rooms reduce risk of hospital-acquired infections, create more space for families and visitors, and deliver the positive therapeutic impact of more privacy and less noise during treatment and recovery. Specifically, the project is a 68,000 square feet vertical expansion of the hospital’s southeast wing that will add four floors. Three of the floors will be devoted to 60 private patient care rooms, 20 rooms for each floor. This will allow Highland to shift patients currently in semi-private rooms to private patient care rooms. The remaining floor will be shell space for future development needs. The project will improve patient care and the patient experience, bringing privacy and comfort together with our ongoing mission of excellence in patient- and family-centered care.
