Simulation continues to grow as a medical education, teamwork training, quality improvement, and patient safety tool.  The lack of trained instructors has been identified as a need both regionally and nationally. The URMC Simulation Instructor Course has been created for clinicians (attending physicians, mid-level providers, fellows, nurses, allied health providers, and chief residents) as well as faculty of healthcare professional schools to develop skills in debriefing and instructional design using simulation methodology. This highly-interactive course will provide current and potential instructors with a formalized simulation educational program.

At the conclusion of this program, instructors will be able to:

  • Apply adult learning principles in simulation-based medical education (SBME)
  • Develop learning objectives and design objective-based simulation scenarios
  • Explain and demonstrate the role of the facilitator in SBME
  • Demonstrate different techniques of debriefing
  • Integrate teamwork and communication skills in scenario design and facilitation
