Community Kindness

The support of this community has been especially appreciated during these trying and challenging times when we are all dealing with the impact of the coronavirus. Here are some examples of how our community shows it's appreciation to our staff. Thank you!

democratic cookiesThank you to the Allegany County Democratic Committee for recently donating 450 individual packets of homemade cookies to Jones Memorial Hospital! Barb Lanphier of the Nursing Office gratefully accepted the cookies and ensured that they were delivered to the staff! Karen Ash, secretary of the organization, said that 65 volunteers baked, packaged, and delivered these cookies to Jones with "all the warmest greetings of the season and our sincere gratitude for caring for the people we love most dearly."

diggingdeeperMichele Wagner and Manda Cronk of Digging Deeper in Faith, an on-line bible study group, stopped by Jones Memorial recently to deliver a box of thank you cards written by the group to the nursing staff at Jones Memorial Hospital. ICU nurses Casey Diaz and Paula Ellison were very appreciative of the group’s thoughtful gesture and delivered the cards to the staff. Thank you for thinking of us!

Lynette and Brian Goodridge donated this beautiful bouquet of cupcakes from Chelsea’s Catering for their healthcare heroes - the staff at Jones. The cupcakes are almost too pretty to eat, but they are made by Chelsea, left, so they are too delicious to NOT eat. Thank you for supporting your local hospital and a local business!

Vanessa Lanterman took charge of delivering the cupcakes to her co-workers.

Mark Levine delivered a supply of facemasks donated by Genesee Valley Central School. The masks, which were made on the school's 3-D printer, feature a replaceable filter. Accepting the donation from Mr. Levine are Darcy Silsby, RN, and PCTs Taren Jaycox, who is modeling one of the new masks, and Courtney Zuber.

 

 

 

bolivarAllentown CookiesAlyn Weimer and Jody Allen delivered cookies from Chelsea's Catering and donated by the Allentown United Methodist Church. Thank you so much for your generous gift and supporting both Jones Memorial and a local business. The couple also stopped at the Jones Memorial Family Practice in Bolivar and Nurse Tina Francisco was happy to accept them on behalf of everyone at the office!

Girl Scout Troop 40477 donated ten boxes of Girl Scout Cookies for hospital staff to. Lisa Armstrong individually wraps the cookies before putting them out in the JMH Café, where they were quickly snapped up by grateful staff members. Girl Scout Cookies are definitely a comfort food!

Thank you to Shirley Potter with the Wellsville Salvation Army who stopped by with a delivery from Sauputo Dairy in Friendship! She brought us seven cases of cottage cheese! There were three cases each of strawberry and peach and one case of pineapple.

 

 

 

 

 

Barchocolatesb Ingraham stopped in to deliver some of her chocolate creations to the staff in medical imaging and in surgical services.

Highland

 

Our friends at Highland Park Nursing Home dropped off snack bags of caramel corn for the staff at Jones Memorial.What a sweet thing to do! Thank you!

Bev DeVore, a neighbor of Kristen Ives, donated five sheet pizzas from the Stillwater Pizza & Grill for the staff to share. Thank you Bev!

Dr. Thomas Lopez of the Wellsville Veterinary Hospital donated a microwave to the Surgical Services Staff. The one they had been using broke and they haven’t been able to get our to purchase a replacement. Thank you Dr. Lopez!

It’s good to have a friend with a 3D printer! A friend of Lab Tech Sara Merriam manufactured a nice supply of plastic extensions for face masks in a variety of colors!

The extensions make wearing a mask easier on the ears by connecting the ear loops! Thank you Sara!

 

 

 

Scio Lions

The Scio Lions Club and the Wellsville Lions Club combined forces to provide pizbelvidereza and wings for Jones Memorial Hospital staff to enjoy! Lions members from each club picked up the food from The Store in Scio and Short’s in Wellsville and delivered it to not only the hospital, left, but to the medical practices offices on Main Street and Loder Street in Wellsville, as well as the offices in Belvidere, right, and in Bolivar. From all of us at Jones Memorial, thank you Lions Clubs – not for only buying us lunch (or dinner) but for delivering it right to our doors! It was very much appreciated!

 

coffee ARNCookies and Coffee: Two great things, that go great together! Shaquay Ely, in photo, and her mom, Janine Greene, baked dozens of cookies this weekend and delivered them to the hospital staff this morning. The frosted sugar cookies included a message of thanks and appreciation. In a lucky coincidence, Allegany Roots Network once again donated a supply of Dunkin Donuts coffee - also this morning! The donation coffee came with encouraging messages on stickers to put on the cups. JMH Vice President of Patient Care Services Donna Bliven thanked ARN Director Cristina Chapelle on behalf of everyone at JMH.To Shaquay, Janine, and all the good people at ARN: Thank you for you thinking of us!

Karena Yager and family bought lunch for the Medical Imaging and ER department from the Duke House. A beautiful selection of wraps, salads, and decadent desserts was a much appreciated way to show those front-line workers how much they are appreciated!

CTA and PKofWThanks to a generous donation, JMH staff working the weekends on med/surg, ICU, OB, and the ER won’t have to bring their own meals on Sundays - when the JMH Cafe is closed - for the month of April.
CrossTown Alliance Church and Pizza King of Wellsville have combined resources and will provide pizza and soda to these staff members every Sunday for the whole month! Accepting the first delivery are JMH staff, from left, Nena, PCT; Taren, PCT; and Kacey, RN. Thank you to the delivery person as well!​

The nice folks at L'Italia donated lunch on Friday for the OB staff and the ICU. Donna Bliven took the food to the ICU. The restaurant also donated 10 pizzas for the ER, which they shared with the rest of the hospital staff. Thank you for thinking of us!

Dr. Thomas Lopez of the Wellsville Veterinary Hospital provided a wonderful lunch from the Beef Haus for the Admission staff and the Emergency Department. Beef Haus owner Bob Insley delivered a huge cart of food, which the Jason Hunt of the emergency department was very happy to pick up and distribute. Thank you Dr. Lopez!

Thank you to Saxon Glass of Alfred senior hardware/software engineer Trevor Kobot, and company President Arun Varshneya, PhD, for donating 200 plastic extensions for face masks. Produced with a 3D printer, the extensions are used to connect the ear loops on a facemask in order to relieve pressure on the ears. According to a staff member who tried one out, they also help keep the facemask in place. Thank you Saxon Glass!​

Nick Moline supported TWO local organizations and earned himself a new nickname: The Muffin Man! Nick recently ordered 300 assorted muffins from Tops Friendly Market and donated them to the staff at Jones Memorial Hospital. Do we know The Muffin Man? Why, yes we do know The Muffin Man! His wife Vivian is part of the team in the Food & Nutrition Department. Thanks Nick!

 

 

Someonemikes bought lunch for the Admissions Department and the Emergency Room staff today! Delivered by Chris Torrey from Mike's on the Corner, Admissions Coordinator Christy Collins made sure the sandwiches, salads, and drinks made it to the people they were meant for! Thank you for thinking of us!

 

 

 

 

 

Thank yheadbandsou to The Savvy Coconut for donating a supply of headbands to Jones Memorial! Leah Scoville of Wellsville chose Jones to be the recipient in a buy one, donated two program that the company is currently running.

Thank you to Tupperware rep Kate Murphy for organizing the "Adopt a Medical First Responder" effort. In response to her post, people from all over sponsored a total of 288 soup mugs filled with tea, packets of oatmeal, and chocolate. A supply of these were donated to Jones Memorial Hospital and a random drawing was held to distribute them among the staff.

 

 

Stillwater Pizza

 

What a wonderful surprise from the Stillwater Pizza & Grill in Wellsville! The restaurant donated pizza for the staff with this note: "We want to thank you for your tireless work to keep our community safe. We appreciate all you do. Our hearts are with you."

 

 

 

critical burnWith all JMH staff wearing face masks when at work, the ear-saving clips donated by Critical Burns of Cuba, New York are coming in VERY handy! The clips are designed to relieve the pressure that straps from face masks can put on the ears. It connects the straps behind the head. Sara Hess, Speech-Language Pathologist at Jones Memorial is demonstrating one on her mask and holding one in her hand. Thank you Critical Burns of Cuba for your very useful and generous donation!

 

 

Cub Scouts

 

The Cub Scouts in Pack 739 in Bolivar put a little "POP" in our day when pack m

embers Noah McPherson and brothers Eli and Austin Gilliland delivered two cases of microwave popcorn with a thank you note for the hospital staff. "A little snack to enjoy while you work," is how they put it!

Thank you to the Western New York Dairy Farmers and the Upstate Niagara Cooperative for generously donating two coolers of chocolate and strawberry milk for the staff at Jones Memorial Hospital! CRNA Mark Elliott selects a bottle of strawberry milk to enjoy with his lunch!

What a wonderful way to start the day! Mya Matteson, local chalk artist, took advantage of the warm weather yesterday to leave these beautiful messages for Jones Memorial staff members as they entered the hospital this morning! Thank you for your very kind words!

Sauputo Dairy in Friendship generously donated 22 five-pound tubs of cottage cheese and 16 five-pound tubs of sour cream for the JMH staff. The gift was distributed on a first come first served basis and the dietary staff graciously portioned out the gift to those who brought smaller containers from home. A donation from the Allegany Roots Network/Genesis Bible Church and the Beta Sigma Phi/Xi Alpha Omicron Sorority recently combined to donate a well-deserved coffee break to JMH staff recently! As a way to support JMH staff during a stressful time, the former donated three boxes of Dunkin Donuts coffee, while the sorority provided cookies, brownies, and other sweet treats to go with it.

 

 

Flowers

Tami's Floral Expressions in Wellsville donated some beautiful bouquets to Jones Memorial Hospital recently. One of her loyal customers donated $1,000 for flowers to be delivered to the hospital and local nursing homes. Tami matched the donation and delivered these flowers to Jones Memorial on Sunday. Thanks to Tami and to her anonymous donor for the beautiful bouquets and the joy they bring our patients and our staff.
