Request Materials
You may reserve items from Miner Library's collections or request delivery of materials from other URochester Libraries locations for pickup at Miner Library.
- Find the item in DiscoverUR
- Under the Get It section, select Sign In and log in with your Active Directory (AD) credentials. Once signed in, request options will appear.
- Select Request this item
- Choose a pickup location. To pick up at Miner Library, under Health Sciences Campus, select Edward G. Miner Library.
- Select Send Request
You will receive an email when your item is ready for pickup at the Miner Library Answer Desk.
If the item requested is already checked out, your request will be placed in a queue and you will be notified when the item becomes available.
Need a book that is checked out or missing?
Submit an Interlibrary Loan request and we will obtain it from another institution.
Renewals
Automatic Renewals
Most eligible items automatically renew up to three times. Each renewal period is equal to the original circulation period.
Need more time?
If you receive an overdue notice after the third renewal and would like to extend the due date, call (585) 275-3361, submit a question, or stop by the Answer Desk. You do not need to bring the item into the library to extend the use period. We will just need your URochester ID.
When Renewals Are Not Available
Items may not be eligible for renewal if:
- The item has been requested by another patron
- The item is needed for course reserve
- Your account has $25 or more in fees
Overdue or Lost Materials
Overdue Notices
The library sends two overdue notices for borrowed items. If an item is not returned after the second notice, it will be declared lost and a replacement charge will be applied to your account. If the item is returned, the replacement charge will be removed.
Replacement Charges
The library system applies a default replacement fee when an item is declared lost. Charges are adjusted as follows:
- Books: assessed individually based on replacement costs
- Mac Laptop: $2,500
- PC Laptop: $1,500
- Charging Unit/Power Supply: $150
- Mouse: $25
Your URochester Libraries privileges may be suspended if you have $25 or more in fees, or you have items that are more than one month overdue.
Returns
University-owned materials may be returned using any of the following options:
- Return items to a service desk at any URochester Libraries location
- Place items in a library book drop:

- Rush Rhees Library on River Campus - located at the Library Road entrance behind the library building. It is between the iZone windows and the USPS boxes, labeled "Book Depository"

- Mail items to: Edward G. Miner Library, University of Rochester Health Sciences Campus, 601 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14642
Exceptions
The following items must be returned directly to the issuing URochester Libraries location:
- Interlibrary Loan materials
- Technology equipment
Do not ship these items unless authorized in advance by library staff.
Proxy Borrowing
A library proxy borrower is a designated individual authorized to check out materials on behalf of a primary library user. Both the proxy borrower and the primary user must have active URochester affiliations and valid IDs. Materials checked out by a proxy borrower are charged directly to the primary user's account, and the primary user is responsible for all borrowed materials, including renewals, returns, and any applicable fees.
Primary users may authorize multiple proxy borrowers. Proxy borrower authorizations must be renewed annually. Answer Desk staff can assist with establishing or renewing proxy borrower authorizations.
