Message from the Associate Chair

Valerie Lang, MD, MHPEMedical education research is the field that focuses on advancing the science of educating outstanding physicians and interprofessional teams. We innovate and study the process from medical school, through residency, fellowship, and continuing professional education.

As the home of the biopsychosocial approach, the double-helix curriculum model, and unique POCUS, equity, and other curricula and programs, the University of Rochester is a leader in educational program innovation.

The goal of the office of the Associate Chair of Medical Education Research and Scholarship is to promote excellence in education research and scholarship by providing unique resources and support. We offer a consultation service to provide expert guidance at any point from study design to manuscript preparation. We host activities to build our community of scholars and curate a collection of resources to support research and innovation.  We help scholars develop and disseminate new insights and best practices into educating healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, equitable care to their patients.

We believe that medical education research and scholarship are critical to improving the care of our patients and communities, and we’re here to support the Department of Medicine in achieving this goal.
