Education

The UR Division of Geriatrics & Aging is well known for its work in the advancement of local and national geriatric education. Initiatives from the John A. Hartford Center of Excellence and the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation grant have drawn national attention and are disseminated for use at other universities. The Division provides a variety of educational offerings targeting medical students, residents and fellows as well as community-based health care professionals.

Medical Students

We successfully integrated a comprehensive Aging Theme into all four years of the undergraduate medical school curriculum that remains fully sustained and serves as a national model, providing a rich foundation in geriatric medicine for all students.

Residents

Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and subspecialty residents experience the full continuum of care through experiences in community and consultative practice, Acute hospital care and home visits, affiliated nursing homes and assisted living facilities, as well as specialty inpatient care units.

Fellows

Our Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, one of the oldest and most recognized programs in the Country, trains up to 5 fellows annually. This one-year ACGME accredited training program develops clinicians, educators and investigators who are leaders in our field.

Health Care Professionals

The Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center, funded by HRSA’s Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, serves a 17 county area of the Finger Lakes and geriatric education to an extensive network of providers to improve health outcomes for older adults.
