Engagement and Wellbeing

Community group hands extended in unity connected around shape of a heart

The Department of Medicine Office of Engagement and Wellbeing seeks to build a culture of dignity, respect, collaboration, and professional fulfillment. We bring together faculty, staff, trainees, community partners, and institutional leaders to improve health outcomes for the communities we serve and create a healthier workplace for all employees and patients.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen community engagement, advance health improvement, and promote wellbeing across the Department of Medicine. We support meaningful partnerships, patient-centered care and training, innovative approaches to improving how we work, and opportunities for individuals and teams to thrive.

Our Areas of Focus

Community Engagement

We promote meaningful, collaborative relationships between the Department of Medicine and the communities we serve. Our office supports the inclusion of community perspectives in research, clinical interventions, quality improvement, and education.

Health Improvement

We work to advance health equity and improve health outcomes by supporting patient-centered care and scalable interventions. We also provide guidance and resources to help Department of Medicine teams develop community-engaged and health equity initiatives.

Wellbeing

We seek to create a work environment where individuals and teams can focus more time on work that is meaningful to them. Our wellbeing efforts emphasize improving teamwork, streamlining workflows, strengthening communication, supporting transparent leadership, fostering professional connections, and identifying practical solutions to everyday challenges in the workplace.

How We Work

Our office collaborates with departments, programs, and partners across the University of Rochester Medical Center and the broader Rochester community. Through consultation, education, resource development, and collective problem-solving, we help transform ideas into sustainable approaches that benefit our workforce, patients, and communities.
