Research Projects

Research projects in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology include:

  • Studies of the role that hormones play in normal and abnormal development
  • Participation in TrialNet, a network of 18 clinical centers dedicated to the study, prevention and early treatment of type 1 diabetes
  • Research through the NIH-designated Autoimmunity Center of Excellence to develop treatments for type 1 diabetes
  • Participation in other multi-center immunology of diabetes research initiatives
  • Participation in large longitudinal study of bone accrual in children and adolescents newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes
  • Evaluation of the relationships between body composition, bone health, and chronic disease in the pediatric population with type 1 diabetes
  • Collaborative research with orthopedics to develop special laboratory techniques for the measurement of bone precursor cells and to understand their function
  • Collaboration with the neuromuscular clinic to develop studies investigating endocrine diseases associated with various muscular dystrophies
  • Evaluation of in-school diabetes management and factors affecting metabolic control and long-term outcome in diabetes
