Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Training

UCAR adopted the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) online program for basic, species-specific, and surgery training. On January 1, 2010, all new investigators and staff will be required to complete the CITI courses (

If you are not working with human subjects, skip to the Lab Animal Welfare Courses.

The CITI training courses available include:

  • Investigators, Staff, and Students
  • Aseptic Surgery
  • Reducing Pain and Distress in Laboratory Mice and Rats
  • Species-Specific Training for the following animal models:
    • Cats, Dogs, Gerbils, Guinea Pigs, Hamster, Mice, Non-Human Primates, Rabbits, Rats, and Swine

The CITI courses can be completed prior to attending Animal Resource Orientation. Animal Orientation, non-human primate safety, rodent colony management, MicroIsolator Technology Training, rodent euthanasia, and facility tours are still required. If you will be working with ferrets, chickens, and non-human primates*, the training materials are available in the UCAR Office.

*Personnel who work with non-human primates must complete the CITI and UCAR training courses/material.
