University Program Named Neighborhood Champion

Bank of America has recognized the University of Rochester as its "2021 Neighborhood Champion." This award is in recognition of the work the University of Rochester does to advance economic mobility throughout the greater Rochester region with the Teen Health & Success Partnership program (THSP) at the Center for Community Health & Prevention.
The Neighborhood Champions program provides $50,000 in grant support, as well as an opportunity for virtual leadership training.

The Rochester Diabetes Prevention Program (RDPP), offered by our Center clinicians, recently received "Full Recognition" status for the next five years from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This designation is reserved for programs that have effectively delivered a quality, evidence-based program that meets all of the standards for CDC recognition. In our recognition letter, the Team Lead of the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program, said: "The sustained success of your lifestyle change program makes an invaluable contribution to the prevention of type 2 diabetes, both in your community and nationally... You and your colleagues should be extremely proud of this accomplishment. It is programs like yours that are turning the tide in the fight against the epidemic of type 2 diabetes."
Infectious Disease Expert Recognized with University Alumni Service Award

Ghinwa Dumyati, M.D., infectious disease expert and director of the Center's Communicable Diseases Surveillance and Prevention program, was recently recognized with the 2021 School of Medicine and Dentistry Alumni Service Award. The award honors a University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry alumnus who has furthered the interests of the medical school and the Alumni Council through significant support, commitment and service.
