Our 20-bed Acute Rehabilitation Unit is housed within Strong Memorial Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and the Region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center. The inpatient rehabilitation unit is both CARF & Magnet accredited, and is comprised of a complete interdisciplinary team including Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians, residents, social workers, Occupational/Physical/Recreational Therapy, and a neuropsychologist. Our busy medical setting offers motivated and committed beginning clinicians an excellent opportunity for professional growth and clinical variety.

We are offering a twelve-month clinical fellowship beginning July 2024. Our clinical fellowship is designed to provide acute rehab experience working with a wide variety of patient populations, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative diseases, and debility following organ transplant and cardiac surgery. Our goal is to provide new clinicians with a strong foundation to become a well-rounded medical rehabilitation Speech-Language Pathologist. We provide experience with Modified Barium Swallow Studies and FEES. The Clinical Fellow will actively participate in an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.

Job Description:

Full Time 40 Hours Speech Pathology

July 2024 - June 2025

8AM-4:30PM; Sundays through Thursdays, with some holidays

Position Summary:

The Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellow (CF) works under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). This position is responsible for providing evaluation and treatment to patients across the continuum of services including swallowing, speech, language, cognitive, and alternative means of communication. The CF will be responsible for developing individual goals and treatment plans for their caseload, as well as attending weekly meetings with the rehabilitation interdisciplinary team. The CF will also be responsible for performing education for families, staff on the rehabilitation unit, and the Speech Language Pathology department.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Completion of M.A. or M.S. degree in an accredited speech-language pathology program at time of start date.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Previous clinical experience providing direct patient care in a medical rehabilitation setting and prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
