General Surgery

Residents spend a total of 6 weeks working with rural general surgeons in the outpatient and inpatient settings. This includes the opportunity to learn upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, with high volumes of procedures available to interested residents.

Dermatology

Residents spend two weeks rotating with university dermatology attendings at various outpatient sites. Residents learn the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions and have the opportunity to perform skin procedures.

In addition, residents rotate through the Highland Family Medicine Dermoscopy clinic. Under the guidance of trained faculty, residents learn how to examine skin lesions using a dermatoscope and perform biopsies when indicated.

Residents spend 2 weeks rotating with university dermatology attendings at various outpatient sites during the PGY-1 year. Residents learn the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions and have the opportunity to perform skin procedures. Residents also work with dermatology attendings performing eConsults, reviewing digital images of skin lesions and conditions and providing diagnosis and treatment options to referring physicians. Residents also have the opportunity to rotate through the Highland Family Medicine Dermoscopy clinic. Under the guidance of trained faculty, residents learn how to examine skin lesions using a dermatoscope and perform biopsies when indicated.
