What’s your professional development plan?

Professional development is an integral part of your educational experience. Skills learned through professional development are as critical to succeeding in your program now as they are to landing a job later. We encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities for development throughout the year with myHub, the University, conferences and professional societies in your discipline, and via self-study utilizing the many resources that you will find throughout the myHub website. 	Individual Development Plans (IDPs) The Individual Development Plan (IDP) concept is a commonly used tool to help people define and pursue their career goals.
	Handshake Handshake is your career connection resource, allowing you to find internship and employment opportunities based on your interests, discover when employers are recruiting, connect with alumni and employers, attend events and programs in your field of interest.
	myHub Lending Library myHub has over 150 hard copy books and resources that SMD trainees can sign-out. If you don’t see the resource you are seeking, let us know.
myHub Events & Programming	myHub Events Participate in professional development activities that align with your academic and career interest goals. Check-out the myHub events & news page for upcoming professional development programming and events from across the university.
myHub URBEST Program	myHub URBEST Program The myHub URBEST program seeks to better prepare graduate students and postdoctoral trainees for academic careers and careers outside of academia. To do this, it provides instruction in leadership and professionalism, provides training pathways in industry, manufacturing and entrepreneurship; regulatory affairs, compliance and review; science and technology policy; data science; science communication and outreach; and higher education and teaching - and creates new opportunities for experiential learning through internships and externships. Training Pathways	Training Pathways The myHub URBEST Training Pathways provide access to aligned educational programs and experiential learning opportunities, such as long-term internships, short-term internships and shadowing experiences. To maximize flexibility, trainees may select any course or experience from any pathway – as best meets their own individual learning objectives and goals. You do not have to stay in one pathway for your duration with URBEST. You may explore as many as you would like. myHub URBEST Blog	myHub URBEST Blog The myHub URBEST Blog provides SMD trainees with overview and personal knowledge from alumni, employers, and fellow trainees on careers, internships, and professional development. The blog is designed to motivate biomedical and health science trainees to consider careers and experiences that best match their needs and initiate professional skills development to become successful scientists.
