Items in the Library collection may be found by searching DiscoverUR. For more information about how to use Discover UR, see our Discover UR Research Guide. If you need assistance locating an item, please ask at the Answer Desk. You may also borrow books from any other UR library, or request that the item be sent to the Miner Library for you to pick up.

Loan periods may differ for borrowed items that are owned by another UR Library.

Most items may be renewed three times and will be auto-renewed by the library system. Each renewal period is equal to the original circulation period.

If you receive an overdue notice, your item has reached the maximum number of renewals. To extend the due date beyond that period, call (585) 275-3361, email  Answer Desk, or stop by the Answer Desk. You do not need the bring the item into the library to extend the use period. We will just need your UR ID.

Renewals may not be granted if:

  • Item has been requested by another patron
  • Item is needed for course reserve
  • Fees on your account are $25 or more

For your convenience, you may reserve items from the Miner Library collection or have items from any UR Library sent to Miner for pick up:

  • Find the item in DiscoverUR (the library’s catalog)
  • Log in to your library account using your Active Directory username and password
  • Under the "Get It" section, click "Request" (you will need to log in to your account using your Active Directory credentials for options to display)
  • Fill in the request form with your preferred pickup location. For pick up at Miner: under UR Medical Center, select Edward G. Miner Library

If you need a book that is currently unavailable from the UR libraries collections, you may place an interlibrary loan request and we'll obtain a copy from another institution.

Overdue and Lost Items

Two overdue reminders are sent. After the second overdue notice, if the due date is not extended or the item returned, it is considered lost and replacement charges are billed.

Replacement costs for lost or damaged items:

The library system automatically charges a default replacement fee of $50. Fees are adjusted as follows:

  • Book - replacement fees are determined on an individual item basis by our Acquisitions staff.
  • Mac Laptop - $2,500
  • PC Laptop - $1,500
  • Charging Unit/Power Supply - $50

Replacement costs are cleared when a "lost" item is returned.

If you have $25 or more in fees or items that are more than one month overdue, your library privileges may be suspended.

Proxy Borrowing

Proxy borrowing allows faculty and staff to authorize designated individuals to check out library materials on their behalf. The faculty or staff member is responsible for the materials checked out by their authorized proxy borrower(s). You may have multiple proxy borrowers and authorizations must be renewed on an annual basis. Answer Desk staff can assist you with setting up proxy borrowing.
