Cardiovascular Pathology

The Cardiac Pathology division provides diagnostic support services to the Heart Failure and Transplantation Center, the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Division of Cardiology.

The cardiac pathology team is highly experienced in the interpretation of endomyocardial biopsies from both cardiac allografts and native hearts. This team is also responsible for diagnostic interpretation on other surgical pathology specimens obtained from the heart and blood vessels.

The cardiac pathology division has developed a new immunohistochemical approach to the diagnosis of antibody mediated rejection. Its members also collaborate in both clinical and basic research with members of the cardiovascular clinical and research faculty at URMC and at the AAB Cardiovascular Research Institute.
