Respiratory Virus Surveillance
The following reports from the Strong Memorial Hospital Microbiology Laboratory show respiratory virus surveillance data for the previous 8 weeks:
- The graphs display several components of testing, including changes in positive test results and testing volume with time.
- Positive test results are divided by age group. Graphs will only be shown in the report when there is recent activity (2 or more cases in the current week, or >5 cases in a given week in the reporting period, with an exception being made for influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) which will be graphed when any are detected).
- Adenovirus reporting only includes respiratory sources.
The following graph is an example of the different data depicted:
Report highlights: For the week ending February 17, 2018, 1095 respiratory samples were submitted for testing. Influenza A cases declined to 158 cases while Influenza B rose to 138 cases. The combined positivity rate for influenza A and B is at 26.8%. RSV remained steady with 56 new cases with positivity of 5.1%. Other respiratory viruses appearing were rhino/enterovirus(13), and coronavirus(16).
