Respiratory Virus Surveillance

The Respiratory Virus Surveillance report from the UR Medicine Labs Central Laboratory shows volume tested and % positivity for Influenza A/B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), SARS-CoV-2, Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV), Adenovirus (AdV), Rhinovirus (RV), and Parainfluenza virus (PIV1-4). We compare % positive in the current season to the previous season, and display the number of positives by age group.

Data includes testing performed at Central Labs, Strong Memorial Hospital, Strong West, Highland Hospital, FF Thompson Hospital, Jones Memorial Hospital, Noyes Memorial Hospital, and St. James Hospital.

In addition to COVID-19 testing, this data reflects tests performed using the three respiratory panels currently offered:

  • Influenza A, B and RSV
  • Metapneumovirus/Adenovirus/Rhinovirus
  • Parainfluenza virus 1-4

SARS-CoV-2 Whole-Genome Sequencing Surveillance

The New York State Department of Health has authorized UR Medicine Labs to conduct sequencing of positive SARS-CoV-2 specimens for monitoring the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 variants for public health surveillance. The analysis of SARS-CoV-2 sequencing results are publicly available at the New York State COVID-19 Variant Data site.
