Lead Poisoning Evaluation & Treatment

The Division of General Pediatrics serves physicians and children with lead poisoning through the Finger Lakes Regional Lead Poisoning Prevention Center (FLRLPPC), which is located at Rochester General Hospital and at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong and which covers an 8-county region of upstate New York. As one of the seven New York State-funded regional lead poisoning prevention centers, the FLRLPPC works to increase the knowledge of primary care providers and the general public regarding all aspects of the childhood lead poisoning problem and its prevention, provides technical assistance to medical providers on the medical management of childhood lead poisoning, oversees inpatient lead chelation, collaborates with county health departments on case management, and works closely with the community‘s childhood lead poisoning prevention coalition.

James Campbell, M.D., M.P.H. is the Director of the FLRLPPC. Stanley Schaffer, M.D., M.S. is the Co-Director of the FLRLPPC. Both Dr. Campbell and Dr. Schaffer have published numerous peer-reviewed articles about lead poisoning.
