JMH Awarded A 4-star Rating From CMS

Jones Memorial Hospital has achieved a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the federal agency that provides health coverage to more than 160 million Americans though Medicare, Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace. CMS works in partnership with the entire healthcare community to improve quality, equity and outcomes in the healthcare system.

JMH has been a 3-star rated hospital since 2021. “It has been our mission to continuously improve quality in patient care at Jones Memorial and it’s an honor to see that our efforts are affecting real change in the community. The initiatives don’t stop here though. We will continue to strive for constant improvement for our patients and this region. I couldn’t be prouder of what the team here at Jones has accomplished.” states Jim Helms, President & CEO at Jones. Only 22% of facilities listed with CMS have a rating of 4 or above.

The ratings include specific clinical, member perception and operational measures. There are approximately 40 measures in the star rating framework. The overall rating, between 1 and 5 stars, summarizes a variety of measures across 5 areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital.

These areas of quality include treatment of heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates and safety of care, among other factors. The evaluation is based specifically on five measure groups; mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.

States Jennifer Scheible, Senior Director of Nursing & Quality Management, “Every associate at Jones plays a key role in helping reach the 4-star rating. As part of the UR Medicine Health System, our motto, Meliora or ‘ever better’, guides us to strive for excellence, accountability, integrity and compassion. While the star rating shows where we were as an organization with the CMS measures, we are always looking at opportunities to enhance the quality and safety of our patients.”
