Welcome from the Division Chief

Stephen Hammes, MD, PhDWelcome to the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Our three main missions are:

  • Provide top level care for all forms of Endocrine Disorders
  • Maintain internationally recognized basic and clinical endocrine research programs.
  • Offer excellent training for the next generation of academic endocrinologists

We provide clinical care to tens of thousands of patients every year, with subspecialty clinics that utilize a multidisciplinary approach to treat all aspects of endocrinology, including diabetes, thyroid disease and thyroid cancer, osteoporosis, pituitary disorders, and transgender care.

Our nationally recognized providers are writing the endocrine literature and textbooks, and are able to offer the latest, most advanced treatments to our patients. In addition, the Division boasts several research laboratories studying a wide array of subjects in Endocrinology, including bone physiology, cancer biology, steroid actions, reproduction, circadian rhythms, and diabetes. Finally, we have a robust fellowship program that provides in-depth clinical and research training in Endocrinology, with our educational mission being to produce academic physicians of the highest caliber.
