Wednesday, December 3, 2025: Golden Years, Silver Samples: Collaborative Diagnostic Care for Older Adults
- Candice R. Coffey, MD, FAAFP, AGSF, Associate Professor, Geriatric Medicine, University of Kansas School of Medicine
- Melody Boudreaux Nelson, DCLS, CC(NRCC), MS, MLS, Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Kansas Medical Center
- Interdisciplinary collaboration is common practice in the care of older adults. Despite being underrepresented in care settings, the laboratory provides the most cost-effective and least invasive source of objective health information –critical for disease prevention, diagnosis, longitudinal outcome monitoring, and essential public health surveillance. Even in a resource-limited form, laboratory results wield enormous influence on risk stratification and early disease detection. This presentation demonstrates how the addition of laboratory medicine can further the 5Ms model of care and add value to the care of older adults.
