SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Surveillance

Purpose

The University of Rochester Medical Center, part of the CDC's New York State Emerging Infections Program (EIP), was awarded a $1.7 million grant to extend EIP surveillance to COVID-19 and conduct several additional related studies. The surveillance team, based out of the Center for Community Health & Prevention, collects extensive data on all COVID-19 hospitalized cases to better understand risk factors, underlying conditions, clinical course and treatment.

The collected data is reported weekly on COVID-NET, a laboratory- and population-based surveillance system, initiated and funded by the CDC.

COVID-19 among Healthcare Personnel

The EIP team is working with the CDC on gathering information from healthcare personnel who have been tested for COVID-19 to evaluate how well COVID-19 vaccines prevent laboratory-confirmed, symptomatic COVID-19 in healthcare workers in the “real world,” outside of a clinical trial. Learn more.
