As you have seen in recent emails we are cautiously starting to ease up on some visiting restrictions and testing requirements that have been in place due to the pandemic. We will continue to monitor the prevalence of COVID-19 variants in our community and keep adjusting our policies and procedures accordingly. We are by no means rid of COVID, but the variants are proving to be less ominous, especially for those who have been vaccinated.  We have learned so much during the past two years. We have faced this unimaginable enemy with fortitude, and we must continue.

Mathew Devine, D.O., Medical Director of Highland Family Medicine and Associate Professor, University of Rochester Department of Family Medicine, is the new President of the Monroe County Medical Society (MCMS).  Dr. Devine previously served as Secretary and Treasurer of the organization. Highland Hospital announces the appointment of Roan J. Glocker, M.D., M.P.H., as Chief of Surgery. Dr. Glocker, a native of the Rochester area and McQuaid graduate, is Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Rochester. Dr. Glocker succeeds Joseph Johnson, M.D., who steps down after serving as the department’s leader for more than 20 years.

Joseph Johnson, M.D. Recognized for 20 Years as Chief of Surgery

Joseph Johnson, M.D., was recently honored at a Highland provider recognition event after stepping down as Highland Hospital’s Chief of Surgery having served as the department’s leader for nearly 20 years. He will continue to serve as chief of the bariatric/GI division within the University of Rochester Department of Surgery and continue his surgical practice as Associate Professor of Surgery in the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group.
