Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology Fellowships

The Allergy/Immunology & Rheumatology Division of the Department of Medicine offers excellent two-year fellowship training in both Allergy/Immunology (in collaboration with the Pediatric AI Division) and in Adult Rheumatology. Combined three year programs leading to certification in both subspecialties can be arranged on an individualized basis. In addition to outstanding clinical training, the fellowship programs at the University also offer excellent opportunities for extended research training with leading scientists in clinical trials, outcome studies, translational research and bench research in multiple areas including: autoimmunity, germinal center biology, developmental immunology, vaccine biology, HIV infection and aging.

Medical Student Elective

The Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology Division offers an excellent clinical elective for students which focuses on the history and physical exam, diagnostic laboratory studies, and diagnosis of the more common diseases in Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology. Teaching venues include the ambulatory clinic, division conferences, and a self-study course using Blackboard.

Highlights of the Clinical Elective

  • 4-5 half days per week in ambulatory clinics working one-on-one with a faculty member
  • Division conferences to complement the patient care experience
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound
  • Self-study course using Blackboard designed for the student rotation

Medical Resident Elective

The Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology Division offers excellent electives in Clinical Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology for medical residents, med/peds residents and other interested residents. The experience focuses on the history and physical exam, diagnostic laboratory studies, and diagnosis of the more common diseases in Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology.
