Obesity Care

Susanne U. Miedlich, MD Susanne U. Miedlich, MD

Director, Obesity Clinic

Among US adults, obesity and diabetes incidence have doubled between 1994 and 2014. These numbers continue to rise and both conditions are associated not only with increased morbidity and mortality but also with costs of over $200 billion/year (CDC, 2014; CDC, 2016).

At our obesity/diabetes clinic, we strive to change that. We offer well-rounded patient evaluations and treatment for obesity and diabetes, as well as other endocrine diseases that can affect weight, such as thyroid dysfunction.

Our interdisciplinary team includes:

  • Physicians
  • Certified dieticians
  • Diabetes educators
  • Physical therapists

We connect our patients to lifestyle programs within and outside of URMC, we offer medical therapy for obesity, and also treatment for diabetes and thyroid dysfunction. In addition, we work closely with specialists in sleep medicine, mental health, gastroenterology, as well as bariatric surgery, to offer comprehensive care to our patients.

Dr. Miedlich is a board-certified Endocrinologist who came to the United States from Leipzig University, Germany. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the University Hospital in Leipzig, Germany and then at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology at URMC. Since 2014, she has been faculty in the Division of Endocrinology at URMC.
