How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the Doctoral Internship at the University of Rochester. Our Internship Program is offering 8 full time positions; 4 in our Child and Adolescent track, and 4 in our General Adult Track with one slot designated for a Deaf Wellness emphasis. In the event that the Deaf Wellness position is not filled, the position will roll over to General Adult.

INTERNSHIP START DATE:    August 1, 2019     

We select the most qualified candidates regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, military/veteran status, national origin, race, religion/creed, sexual orientation or any other status protected by law.

All applicants must be matriculated in an APA Accredited Ph.D. or Psy.D. program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. Applicants must also demonstrate adequate preparation for internship as indicated by their credentials and their graduate training director's endorsement.

Candidates who are invited for an interview will receive notification via email no later than December 15th. In the rare case of extenuating circumstances,  candidates may request to participate in the interview day via Zoom.  Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer interviews to all applicants, and we ask that applicants do not attempt to arrange an interview until they have been contacted.

  • Our Program is a participant of the AAPI Match: applicants will need to register with APPIC Online, which may be accessed from the APPIC Web site.

  • Additional material is requested: please attach two recent de-identified samples of your written clinical work to your online application—1) a treatment or case summary, and 2) a psychological evaluation report.
  • Deaf Wellness Specialty: Applicants for this position must be proficient in ASL and have prior experience serving deaf individuals. Applications from persons who are, themselves, deaf or hard-of-hearing are particularly encouraged and will be evaluated in an affirmative action framework. Applicants' ASL proficiency can be documented by any of the following, and will need to be sent to Dr. Amanda O’Hearn prior to interview:
  1. A video clip, at least 10 minutes in length, which thoroughly demonstrates the applicant's expressive and receptive ASL skills (i.e. a ten minute, casual conversation between the applicant and another fluent signer)
  2. Documentation the applicant has passed the Sign Language Proficiency Interview at the advanced level or beyond
  3. Evidence of RID interpreter certification

No other sign language test results will be accepted nor will any statements regarding ASL proficiency that may be contained in letters of recommendation. If problems occur with uploading video, you may mail a videotape to:
